The JBB is Back! An Update

The Jewish Boxing Blog is now back. I apologize for not providing any updates and for not getting back to anyone kind enough to email me. I am thrilled to announce the reason I was incommunicado is because my wife and I had twins. They are now a year and a half, and my head is finally just above water.

Since The JBB's last post in January of 2017, not a ton has happened in the world of Jewish boxing. Yuri Foreman hasn't been in the ring since that last post, but he is considering a comeback according to hints he's dropped on Facebook.

After suffering competitive defeats to the best light heavyweights in the world, Sergiy Kovalev, Olexandr Gvozdyk, and Eleider Alvarez, Isaac Chilemba beat Blake Caparello, an Australian boxer whose three losses have been to world class opposition. After the victory in March, Chilemba lost a decision to Dmitry Bivol, a Russian fighter who might be the next light heavyweight star. Chilemba is now 25-6-2 with 10 KOs.

Boyd Melson retired with a 15-2-1 record and flirted with a run for Congress, even raising money for the endeavor.

Carolina Raquel Duer lost two split decisions to Maria Cecilia Roman on August 4, 2017 and then exactly one year later. Duer's record is now 19-5-1 with 6 stoppages.

Tony Milch, the British junior middleweight, out-pointed a 90-fight veteran Arvydas Trizno in May of 2017. Afterwards, Milch suffered his first two career losses. A fifth round stoppage loss to 17-1 (at the time) prospect Matt McCarthy took place on October 10, 2017. Fewer than four months later Milch dropped a close decision to 47-fight veteran Danny Little, who picked up only his seventh victory. Perhaps the 37 year old jumped into the ring too quickly after the TKO loss.

Zachary Wohlman went1-1-1 in 2017. His win was a stoppage victory, Kid Yamaka's second career KO. Each of the three fights were against boxers with more professional fights than Wohlman, but each opponent had a losing record. Wohlman last fought on November 3, 2017, a 4th round KO loss. He is 10-3-2.

After falling to undefeated prospect Charles Foster, Sam Horowitz has faced two opponents with quality records. He lost to David Murray in April of 2017 and then drew with Daniel Najera four months later. He also knockout Skylar Thompson, but the fight was later ruled an exhibition because Thompson weighed too much. Sam retired with a 6-3-2 and 5 KOs.

Dustin Fleischer retired in May of 2017 with a 6-0 record and 5 KOs.

Two young fighters have surfaced since 2017. David Kaminsky is an 18-year old southpaw junior middleweight. The 3-0 boxer punches in combination and attacks the body. He has scored two knockouts thus far and is promoted by Top Rank. Benny "The Jewish Bulldog" Sinakin is a 21 year old light heavyweight from Philadelphia. The former amateur standout is 2-0 as a professional with one knockout and one shutout decision victory.

Horowitz Draws with Williams

On May 14, Samuel Horowitz fought to a majority draw with Dwayne Williams at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. This was only Horowitz's second fight that went the distance.

The judges' scores were 38-35 (Horowitz), 37-37 twice. This snaps Horowitz's four win streak. he is now 6-1-1 5 KOs. Williams was on a five fight losing streak, all against undefeated opponents. He is now 5-6-1 with two KOs.

Horowitz Scores Another Early KO

Samuel Horowitz dominated William Bokhart in a minute and half back in January. The fight took place at the National Guard Armory in Hammond, Indiana.

Horowitz moves to 6-1 with five KOs. Bokhart falls to 1-18.

Horowitz is scheduled to be back in the ring on May 14 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana.

Fleischer, Horowitz, and Milch Back in Action

Undefeated welterweight prospect Dustin Fleischer is scheduled to fight on February 19 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Fleischer will appear on the undercard of an event televised by Showtime in the United States. Fleischer is 5-0 with 5 KOs. No opponent has yet been named.

Light heavyweight Sam Horowitz is scheduled to get into the ring on January 29 in Elk Grove, Illinois. Horowitz, who is 5-1 with 4 KOs, will fight on the undercard of a "stay busy" bout for undefeated Washington DC prospect Dusty Harrison. Horowitz will be in a four-rounder against an unnamed opponent.

Undefeated junior middleweight Tony Milch is scheduled to do battled on February 27 in York Hall in London, England. The 9-0 (1 KO) 34 year old doesn't have an opponent yet either.

Horowitz KOs Another Opponent

Light heavyweight Samuel Horowitz stopped Ronez McGrady in the second round last night at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Horowitz won despite spending time in the hospital last week.

Horowitz knocked McGrady down in the second and jumped on the 37 year old to earn the TKO victory a minute 54 seconds into the round.

Horowitz is now 5-1 with 4 KOs. McGrady falls to 0-3.

Horowitz Back in the Ring this Month

Light heavyweight Sam Horowitz is scheduled to be back in the ring on Wednesday, November 25 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. His opponent is slated to be Ronez McGrady.

Horowitz (4-1, 3 KOs) has won his last two fights, including a decision victory in August over Israel Echevarria, who had a winning record at the time. Horowitz had shown power in his previous three wins, but the victory over Echevarria exhibited his boxing skills.

McGrady is a 37 year old who hasn't won a professional fight in his two chances. He was stopped in his last fight which took place on the same card that Horowitz defeated Echevarria. McGrady, who is from Indianapolis, also has experience fighting in mixed martial arts.

This will be the sixth time Horowitz has fought at the Horseshoe Casino. The bout is scheduled for four rounds.

Horowitz Wins By Decision

For the first time in his professional boxing career, Samuel Horowitz heard the final bell. In his first four fights, three of them were first round KO victories and the other was a second round stoppage loss. Horowitz defeated Israel Echevarria by unanimous decision last night at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana.

Horowitz won with three scores of 39-37. Horowitz is now 4-1 with 3 KOs. Echevarria falls to 3-3 with 2 KOs.

Horowitz to Fight Echevarria

Light heavyweight Sam Horowitz is scheduled to face Israel Echevarria on August 22 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Both fighters earned victories on the same card on May 16.

The May 16 unanimous decision win over William Chouloute was Echevarria's first fight since 2002. Echevarria will be turning 45 years old in September. Echevarria is 3-2 with 2 KOs.

Horowitz has earned first round stoppages in each of his three wins. This will be Horowitz's third fight on 2015.

The bout is scheduled for four rounds.

Horowitz Comes Back with a KO

Light Heavyweight Sam Horowitz earned his third career knockout on May 16 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indian. Horowitz stopped Ramira Thomas a minute and sixteen seconds into the fight.

Horowitz was coming off of his first career loss, a second round stoppage to Simon Buettner in March. Horowitz improved his record to 3-1.

Sam also took part in a Big Knockout Boxing event, which follows different rules than a sanctioned boxing match. Horowtiz lost a disputed  five round decision, but scored a knockdown in the fight. He is scheduled to get back in the boxing ring on August 22 at the Horseshoe Casino.

Horowitz to Return in May

Samuel Horowitz is wasting no time getting back into the ring after his first career loss. He's slated to fight at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana in a four round bout on May 16.

Horowitz is 2-1 with all three fights ending in stoppages. Sam has fought a total of five and half minutes in his three fights. He scored two first round KOs before falling to Simon Edward Buettner (7-1) in the second round on March 28.

Horowitz is now scheduled to enter the ring just a month and half after that stoppage. No opponent has yet been announced for the light heavyweight

Horowitz Stopped in the Second

Light heavyweight Sam Horowitz suffered his first loss on Saturday at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Simon Buettner stopped Horowitz in the second round.

An accidental headbutt opened a cut over Horowitz's eye in the first round. Buettner landed a right in the second that hurt Horowitz. Buettner seized his advantage and jumped on Horowitz as he fired punches. Referee Kurt Spivey didn't wait to see if Sam could fight his way out of the predicament. The bout was stopped at the 1:21 mark.

Horowitz falls to 2-1 with two KOs. Buettner rises to 7-1 with 4 KOs.

Horowitz Faces a Tough Test

Light heavyweight Samuel Horowitz is scheduled to face Simon Edward Buettner on February 7 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Buettner marks Horowitz's toughest opponent to date.

Horowitz (2-0, 2 KOs) has two first round KOs in his career. His last one came when a thunderous right hand knocked Eli Smith out cold in November. Nicknamed the "Bear Jew," Horowitz has been in soft thus far, but Buettner represents a significant step up in competition.

Buettner (6-1, 3 KOs) has a sterling record, but there's more than meets the eye. All of Buettner's knockouts came against winless opponents. His six wins came at the hands of fighters with losing records. He's faced one opponent with a winning record and he lost.

The bout is scheduled for four rounds.

Horowitz Scores Another KO

Sam Horowitz notched his second consecutive first round knockout last night. The light heavyweight defeated Eli Smith at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana.

Horowitz hasn't yet seen the second minute of a professional fight yet. He stopped Smith 42 seconds into the fight. Sam's first fight only lasted 28 seconds.

Horowitz is now 2-0 with two KOs. Smith falls to 1-7-1 with one KO.

Horowitz to Fight in November

Light heavyweight Samuel "The Bear Jew" Horowitz is scheduled to fight on November 29 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. It is marked down as a four round bout.

Horowitz won his debut in September in the same venue. He scored a first round knockout over Albert Harkins. No opponent has yet been named for the upcoming fight.

Horowitz Wins in Debut

Samuel Horowitz win his professional debut against Albert Harkins at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Horowitz won by first round knockout.

Horowitz landed an uppercut fifteen seconds into the fight sending Harkins down and out. Horowitz weighed in at 178 pounds while Harkins (1-8) was 177.5. Harkins has now been stopped seven times.

Horowitz to Make Debut in September

Samuel "The Russian Concussion" Horowitz is scheduled to make his professional debut on September 19 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. The Chicago native also goes by the nickname "The Bear Jew."

Horowitz, a light heavyweight, was originally scheduled to make his debut in June. The former MMA fighter is slated to participate in a four rounder. His opponent has yet to be announced.

Horowitz's Debut Canceled

Samuel "The Bear Jew" Horowitz's debut was scheduled for last night in Hammond, Indiana. Horowitz, a former MMA fighter, was scheduled to take on 43 year old Mike Reiter, who is 0-4. The fight was canceled however and the 30 year old Chicago resident will have to wait to make his debut.

Light heavyweight Samuel Horowitz is scheduled to make his pro debut on June 20 at the Horseshoe in Hammond, Indiana. Horowitz is a former MMA fighter and has boxed as an amateur.

Horowitz fights under the nicknames "The Russian Concussion" and "The Bear Jew." The 30 year old fights out of Chicago and took part in the city's Golden Gloves the past two years.

Horowitz's fight is scheduled for four rounds.
