Melson Looking to Rebound

Junior middleweight Boyd Melson is looking to rebound from his first career loss on June 14 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, New York. On March 7, Melson (8-1, 4 KOs) lost a controversial unanimous decision to undefeated prospect Delen Parsley after knocking Parsley down twice.

Melson is scheduled to face Enrique Gallegos in a six round bout. Gallegos (6-5, 1 KO) has lost his last three fights. Those three opponents went a combined 32-4-1 before they met the Oregon resident. Gallegos is a tough and capable fighter who possesses deceptive pop in his punches.

It remains to be seen if Gallegos can correct the defensive lapses that have plagued his him in his losses. He'll have to in order to compensate for below average hand speed. Gallegos has been a slow-starter of late. He was hurt in the first round against Donnie Orr, stopped in the first against Derek Ennis, and dropped in the first against K.J. Noons, a former MMA champion.

Gallegos's last fight, against the aforementioned Noons, took place three years ago. Melson has been far more active. He's fought all nine of his professional fights in the past year and a half.
